ASPHODELUS - The Veil Between The Worlds Tape | | According to Ancient Greek tradition, asphodel is a plant connected with the underworld (Hades) and considered the favourite food of the dead. Keeping this in mind, it seems not too difficult to guess what musical territory the Finnish trio delves into. This new promo tape follows the well-acclaimed debut ep “Dying Beauty & The Silent Sky” and features 4 new tracks where slower parts are well blended with the fewest slow ones. Echoing of earlyish Katatonia, Anathema, My Dying Bride, Visceral Evisceration, Paradise Lost and Elysian Fields yet keeping a subtle bond with the band's previous incarnation Cemetery Fog, Asphodelus' (Gothic) Death Doom is drenched of misery, gloom and despair. Woeful and pitiful riffs, violins, eerie solos, growling vocals and melancholic vibes perfectly fuses throughout these nineteen minutes-long songs. Those who has been haunted by “Dance of December Souls”, “Serenades” and Tiamat's “The Astral Sleep” will surely dig this. Sorrowful music for mournful souls.
